About the snap-fit end cap generator

A missing chair leg cap, an open square tube, a cable grommet hole in a desk: a snap-fit cap fixes it, but rarely comes in the right size. Here you enter the inside of the tube or hole and the generator makes the cap with flexible tabs.

The tabs are separated by slots and have a chamfered locking lip at the tip: they go in easily and lock inside. The rim stays outside, covering the end. It works for round and rectangular tubes, with rounded corners.

What you can adjust

Round or rectangular

Hole diameter, or width and height, from 8 to 200 mm.

Slotted tabs

3 to 24 tabs; on rectangular caps the corners stay solid.

Locking lip

Chamfered at 45° on both sides: goes in easily, comes out without breaking.

Rim and clearance

A rim from 0 to 20 mm beyond the hole and adjustable clearance.

  1. Measure the inside of the tube or hole and choose round or rectangular.

FAQ

The cap is loose or does not go in. What should I change?

The locking lip is how much the tab tips stick out past the hole size. If it is loose, increase the lip; if it does not go in, decrease the lip or increase the clearance. Thinner or longer tabs are more flexible.

Which material should I use?

PETG handles repeated fitting and removal better. PLA works, but the tabs may break if they are too thick or too short.

Does it work as a chair foot?

Yes. For tiled floors, increase the rim thickness to 3–4 mm and glue felt underneath.

Is it free?

Yes. The maker and the editor are free and run in your browser. Without an account, the project is kept for 48 hours; with a free account, it is kept in your account.

Which format do I download?

3MF (recommended: keeps colors and opens directly in Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer and Creality Print), STL or OBJ, always in millimeters.
